Summary

After years of relying on spreadsheets, static documents, and manual workflows, St. Petersburg College set out to modernize its curriculum processes from the ground up. By partnering with Acadea, the institution implemented fully customized workflows, automated proposal tracking, and responsive academic catalogs, effectively streamlining review cycles, boosting collaboration, and delivering real-time value to students, faculty, and statewide stakeholders alike.

The Challenge

Before implementing Acadea’s curriculum management platform, META, St. Petersburg College managed curriculum processes manually through an Access database, spreadsheets, and Word documents. With no version control, unclear approval flows, and no ability to track changes or feedback, the curriculum team struggled with:

  • Missed updates and duplicated versions
  • No centralized approval tracking or comments from C&I reviews
  • A cumbersome, spreadsheet-based committee review process
  • Monthly meetings that overloaded a small staff
  • Manual coordination across disconnected systems

As the demands of academic planning and state compliance grew, so did the need for a modern, centralized system that could scale with the institution.

The Solution

In 2013, SPC became an early adopter of Acadea’s (previously known as CurrIQunet) legacy platform, and in 2020–2021, the college upgraded to META. The implementation included carrying forward years of customizations and building new features like integrated academic pathways, a responsive catalog, and specialized workflows for proposals, programs, and review assignments.

The Upgraded META version enabled SPC to:

Replace static spreadsheets with dynamic, automatically updating academic pathways
Customize workflow approvals by proposal type, including C&I review assignments and AVP approvals
Introduce automated emails and internal notifications to reduce communication overhead
Transition the catalog from a PDF to a dynamic, real-time, accessible system
Centralize articulation catalogs, PLA catalogs, and industry credential catalogs
Support urgent mid-cycle proposals to meet evolving accreditation and policy updates
Add custom dashboards, admin reports, and training videos for user adoption

The Result

With Acadea’s META platform in place, SPC realized transformative results:

Over 10,000 hours reclaimed annually across 300+ curriculum modifications

Streamlined C&I review with team-specific assignments and workload balancing

100+ academic transfer pathways published to support Florida’s 2+2 articulation model

Eliminated manual updates to academic plans, reducing errors and increasing visibility

Improved training, transparency, and collaboration across departments

Increased customization and automation, including real-time program impact reporting

Faculty, staff, and students now engage with curriculum information that is timely, accurate, and centralized, helping ensure smoother academic planning and faster curriculum cycles.
